Who the hell would have guessed a mobile home would be inside the walls of this brick house.
Oddly enough I saw another video today where someone did the exact same thing in another state.
My buddy Jonathon (@SouthernStateBuilders) sent this to me. This house is about to be demoed and they found this shocking surprise.

🧺 More laundry room features and tips in my Checklist: Get it at BuilderBrigade.com 🔥A recessed dryer vent is popping up on all the builds now and I love it. Keeps your dryer vent from being crushed when you push the dryer up against the wall. 💧A floor drain might be a requirement in some areas but I’ve seen quite a few without. If the washing machine leaks, the water will catch inside the pan and into the drain! 🔨Water hammer arrestors are little gadgets attached to water valves to prevent the pipes from inside the walls bouncing around and causing noise. It’s typically caused when a valve is opened and the water comes rushing out all at once. A great add to a washing machine hook-up. What did I miss, what would you add? #BuilderBrigade #homebuildingtips #homebuilding #customHome #HomeBuildingChecklist #laundryroom #laundry #drain #dryervent
❓What are your thoughts with this one…?
🛁 This tub isn’t going to fail, they make and install a ton of these but a little added support wouldn’t hurt . Do you agree or should it just be left alone..?

You can get aways with a 2x4 recessed dryer vent but the vent pipe is pancaked a bit. Much better to go with a 2x6 wall and the larger version of the receesed dryer vent.
👀I have a recessed vent in my Amazon Store if you want to take a peek.

🙋♂️ Did you always think the top plate joint had to break on a stud?
💪For load-bearing walls, the code requires a double top plate. Joints don’t need to land on a stud if the second plate overlaps by 24 inches or a 16" tie plate is used.
For a single top plate, joints must break over a stud or use tie plates.
Every little bit helps to know as a homeowner.
I found this gem on Reddit, I love finding posts like this!

This is a great example of an affordable safe room if a full concrete enclosure is out of reach.
For me, a safe room is about giving my family a secure place during severe weather. Living in Georgia, where F5 tornadoes aren’t a major concern, this works perfectly.
It also doubles as firearm storage, but let’s be real—if someone breaches this room to access my firearms, I’ve got bigger problems than stolen firearms.
This room is not mine personally, but I do have one similar.

🙋♀️ Should they ask for access under the stairs...? It’s common to see the area under the stairs blocked off. I’d prefer some sort of access for storage. I mean you are paying for the square footage, might as well use it. Sometimes it won’t be allowed because of structural or safety issues but it never hurts to ask. Hopefully this gives you a few options to consider if you run into it on your build. What are your thoughts, should they put some sort of access here or just leave it as is? ✅ If you want more ideas like this, go look at my Home Building Checklist at BuilderBrigade.com #BuilderBrigade #homebuildingtips #homebuilding #customHome #homechecklist

🫤I personally do my own pest control on the exterior of the house.
Link in my Amazon Store to the stuff I use (Talak).
I don’t like the idea of chemicals being sprayed inside. That’s just my personal preference though. There are plenty of other homeowners who like this setup. Just want you to know what’s available when you build.
❓Would you consider this in your house…?

If you see dead space like this that could make some sweet built-in storage ask your builder early on in the framing stage.
I see tons of dead space like this covered up and never used.
Would you use this area next to the shower for storage or just have it covered up?

Balloon framing used to be the go-to method, where long studs ran from the foundation all the way up to the roof. This meant the walls were built in one continuous piece, making it quick to frame up tall buildings. But, it had some issues—those long studs were harder to handle, and it didn’t offer much support between floors. There was also a concern for fire, it could travel up the wall faster than because of the continuous space along the exterior.
Then, platform framing came along. Instead of one long wall, they would build each floor separately. So, you frame one floor and then build the next level on top of it. This gives each floor its own platform to sit on, making it easier to work with, more stable, and better for insulation. Plus, it’s just a safer and more practical way to build today’s homes.

🤔Most homeowners don’t realize there is not insulation on the interior walls of their home. It’s typically only on the exterior, unless you pay extra and specifically ask for it.
🚪If you add this insulation for noise dampening, consider a solid core door instead of the more common and cheaper, hollow-core doors.
