I was once told by a mentor that I shouldn't wear dresses or skirts whilst presenting my research, as I would not be taken seriously. I think it came from a good place, but the feeling of having to limit my interest of fashion, and surpress a feminine side I like about myself, did not sit well with me. It took a while, but I decided to challenge this! It shouldn't be my problem, so I decided to wear whatever I wanted. Sometimes dresses, sometimes not. My level of professionalism has always stayed the same. Let's stop with these silly stereotypes, research is not what you wear. We know this. Let's act like it too! 📸 First photo: Ariana Ghatan Second & Third: private 4th: Laura Smith #womeninstem
