Canonically, tofu is one of Beast Boy’s favorite foods but I’m sure he’d love plant-based meats if he learned all the awesome things about it! 🌱🍔 for starters: -Plant-based meats contain significantly less calories and saturated fat and contain significantly more fiber than animal meat. Plant-based meats are “likely to be better for health according to most parameters, while also being more environmentally friendly” (Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, 2023) -Unlike animal meat, the production of plant-based meat does not require antibiotics, hormones, or steroids. (Food and Chemical Toxicology, 2023) -Plant-based products match or out-perform animal-meat on protein content. (The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2020) -The rapidly increasing demand for animal-based food driven by population growth has led to the unprecedented use of hormones and other anabolic compounds. Some, like estrogen, are known for their carcinogenic and genotoxic potential, while others, such as diethylstilbestrol, have mutagenic, carcinogenic, immunotoxic, and teratogenic properties.
