Yes of course what you feed your horse matters, but for us exercise really did the trick. 💪 A quick summery of the factors that helped him lose the weight and get lean: - He lives in a paddock paradise where he is out 24/7 and movement is en encouraged - He has acces to hay 24/7 but very limited grass (only a few hours a week) - He gets about 4 hands of grains a day with all nutrients he needs (from @Vitalbix daily complete) recommended for breeds that gain weight easily - We do about 3 up tempo heavy trailrides a week That’s about it! Do you always wear a helmet? 9 out of 10 times, your horse is not the reason for an accident but external factors you have no control over. 🥹 From personal experience, all my falls over the last years where unforeseen things on the road such as uncontrolled dogs of the leash, wild animals in the forest, irresponsible adults being in places they shouldn’t, other horses and I could go on about this. So I came across as a judgy know it all, fine. 🙃 I do really care about animal well being and think a lot of riders can’t even tell why they use certain ‘tools’ on their horse. 😬 I choose to ride my horse on trails without bit, spurs and whips because it should be a fun forceless experience, if he’s scared or something is up, I step down and lead him.
