A couple of weeks ago, our #FridayFeeling was Chet Atkins playing The Entertainer. It got such a great response that this week, we're playing Classical Gas. The tune was envisioned to be "fuel" for the classical guitar repertoire and originally performed by American guitarist Mason Williams in 1968. "No Time" was another landmark song for The Guess Who, our third million seller in North American which also charted abroad. Burton Cummings and I were looking for a rock song to follow "These Eyes". Impressed by the country-rock style of bands like Buffalo Springfield, I created a riff inspired by their song "Hung Upside Down" and took it to him. We wrote the song together during one of our regular Saturday morning songwriting sessions at his mother's house. The distortion sound from my '59 Gibson Les Paul, a Herzog amp and a whammy bar, combined with Burton's incredible voice took it to #1.
