Time really does fly. One day he fit in my hand, and now I’m noticing the grey whiskers on his face. They say you only get one soul dog in a lifetime, and I still can’t believe I’m lucky enough to have mine by my side. Teddy’s been there through everything. Losing my dad, the quiet lonely seasons, the moments I didn’t think I’d get through. And he’s been there for the best too…getting married, building something we never dreamed possible together. I get emotional thinking about what we’ve created. Somewhere out there, someone will come across a video of him and laugh when they need it most, until the end of time. The dog who helped me through my hardest days might help them through theirs too. You’ve changed my life, Teddy. And somehow, you’ve changed the world a little too. You’re THAT dog, love you buddy.
It’s been a stressful few weeks. Waiting to hear possibly some of the worst news of your life is such a helpless, exhausting feeling. For a week and a half, we didn’t know if the mass on Teddy’s spleen was a serious cancer or something less urgent to monitor. Getting the call that the biopsy showed no evidence of cancer was a huge relief, but we’re not totally out of the woods yet. Now we have to decide the best way to treat the mass, and we’ve been reaching out to every doctor who will take our call to make sure we get it right. For now, Teddy is safe, resting, still his goofy self, and ready for whatever comes next. He has no stress at all, and man am I jealous. Me? I’m hopeful, praying for the best, and ready to do whatever it takes for my buddy. I’ll be starting a fun little doghouse renovation series soon to give Teddy a break and bring some joy back into the feed. And then things will start feeling normal again soon once we have dealt with this situation. Thank you all so much for your support, it means more than you know. We’ve got this!
As Teddy’s birthday approaches, I always find myself reflecting a little more than usual. Watching your dog get older is never easy, any dog owner knows that. But when your dog is also loved by millions of people around the world, you hear it daily: he’s getting grey, he’s getting so old, he won’t be around much longer. And honestly, those comments are tough. But there’s so much more ahead. What I wouldn’t give to have my pup back, but life and time march on. I’m reminded daily that Teddy is still so full of life , he’s young in spirit, strong in body…and now he’s got a chaotic little sister to keep him young even longer. 😂 Instead of dreading what’s many, many, many years ahead, I’m choosing to celebrate what is, what has been, and what will be. The incredible bond we’ve built, the laughter we’ve spread, the good we’ve done together, the change we’ve made in the world…it’s 1 in 100,000,000… and I know we’re just getting started. So here’s to the years we’ve shared, and to many, many more of joy, mischief, and impact. In 2 days when he turns 6, we will celebrate the best boy in the world.
Teddy had a really good night. Hard to believe it’s just day 3 after major surgery, he’s already starting to act like his old self. I probably woke him up more than necessary just to check on him but I’d rather be overly cautious than miss something. He’s doing great. At one point I quietly opened the fridge for a drink (he was sound asleep in his recovery spot). I turned around and he was wide awake, staring me down like a hawk just making sure I wasn’t sneaking cheese without him. 😂
#ad #PeacockPartner For family movie night, we let Roo pick the film… she chose Dog Man on @Peacock . Let’s just say—Teddy took it a little too seriously. Dog Man is now streaming exclusively on Peacock. It’s fun for the whole family… just watch out if your dog gets inspired. #Dog #GoldenRetriever #DogMan
If you missed the big news…after Teddy’s spleen was removed due to a mass, the incredible teams at Torigen ran full pathology on the mass and surrounding tissue… and confirmed there’s NO CANCER! Huge thanks to Soujorn for the initial ultrasound and to Dr. Aldridge for catching the mass in the first place. What’s wild is there were no symptoms, this was only caught because we decided to go above and beyond with a routine health screening. If you’re able, things like ultrasounds, bloodwork, and early cancer detection tests can literally save your dog’s life. Too often we wait until something is obviously wrong, but catching issues early can make all the difference. Now we focus on getting Teddy healed up so we can get back to the chaos, pranks, and joy we love sharing with you all.
That’s one way to make “lemonade”… Two years ago we released our first “skit”, the lemonade stand, paving the way for some of our future hilarious skit videos. But this will always be iconic. #dog #goldenretriever
Happy news! The past month has been one of the most stressful times we’ve faced, but today we’re finally on the road to recovery. Teddy underwent a splenectomy (spleen removal), and after a few days in the hospital, we’re beyond relieved to say he’s HOME and healing. He’s surrounded by love, snuggled up with his favorite people (and Lamb Chops), and slowly getting back to feeling like himself. The surgery went smoothly, and we owe a massive thank you to the entire team at Fetch in Greenville SC . They treated Teddy like one of their own, and we’re forever grateful for the care, communication, and compassion they showed us through every step of this. We also want to give a huge shoutout to Torigen and their incredible CEO, Ashley , who personally flew in to hand-carry Teddy’s spleen back to their headquarters for further testing. Torigen is an innovative oncology company developing personalized vaccines and advanced diagnostics for canine cancers. While the initial biopsy showed the mass was benign, we wanted to go the extra mile to be absolutely sure, and Torigen is helping us do that. A little over a month ago, we found a small mass on Teddy’s spleen. We had two choices: monitor it or remove it. After countless late-night research sessions, deep conversations with vets, oncologists, and others who’ve walked this path, we decided to act. These masses can rupture without warning, and even though the first biopsy didn’t indicate cancer, waiting could’ve meant giving something dangerous time to spread. Removing the spleen gave us clarity, peace of mind, and hopefully, a safer future for Teddy. I also want to thank Katelyn (@Katelyn & Archie ) for being my rock through this. She’s been beside me for every hard call, every long night, and every step forward. I’ve probably driven her crazy with my sleepless late nights, phone calls, “what if” scenarios, and my back and forth. We’re now moving forward confident we did the right thing to save Teddy. He will be back to pranking us, plotting with his notepad, and causing golden mischief before we know it. Team Teddy forever, see you all VERY soon. - Johnathan
